5 things I know: Don't sleep on IMOs toasted ravioli, an underrated Netflix movie, and a way to honor 9/11
A few other useless pieces of information repackaged as opinion.
Let’s get into it on a calm, cool and collected morning in Princeton Heights. The week, and year for that matter, is moving at warp speed towards its conclusion with no slow down in sight. It was just Sunday, and now it’s Thursday. If you’re not patient enough, a whole month will cruise right on by without pause.
1. Say what you want about IMOs pizza, but their toasted ravioli are among the most underrated in town. I could take out an entire order of eight, and still have room to breathe in my stomach. They’re tasty and consistent. Sometimes, a food doesn’t need to be anything more than what it was last time. Due to the polarization around the amazing provel cheese, people crap on their pizza-but those tiny meat pies are no joke. Are they the best? No. Are they great? Certainly.
2. Only watch the amount of baseball that you think is necessary. I chose the continuation of a Ray Donovan binge (my second, wife’s first) over Cardinals baseball last night, a common decision these days. Give that team as much attention as they deserve. Until they blow it up and course correct, they get what they get. The season’s been over, and they’re not that much fun to watch. While they found a way to beat a team worse than them Wednesday night, the Cardinals have scored two runs in their last 18 innings.
3. Speaking of great Netflix movies like Rebel Ridge, don’t pass up a golden flick like The Highwaymen. Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson sing in their respective roles, while John Lee Hancock and Thomas Newman paint the Bonnie and Clyde western in gloriously comforting colors and sound. The whole production matches the aesthetic of a grand story. It’s a movie that was just too straightforward for viewers when it was released a few years back. I rewatch it every few months.
4. I’m taking a test today at work, and to say I am nervous would be an understatement. They are part of life, but usually trap someone in a corner with the possibilities of what could be on a test. If I do well, something could be waiting for me around the corner… as in a set of keys that fires up a work truck. I am motivated, overthinking every possible question, and trying to hold onto a place of confidence. The world of plumbing supplies is less foreign to me, but it’s still a language that I am putting sentences together in while trying to figure it out. It’s a process. Wish me luck.
5. There’s a lot of ways to honor the lives of first responders and civilians who died before breakfast on 9/11, and there’s no bad method. Along with being a decent human, I just try to work hard at my job. That’s tribute enough, and exactly what those lost souls were doing that morning. They were working hard, saving lives and doing their job to the best of their ability in the face of insurmountable odds. The least I can do is work hard when I’m on the clock. Out of all the ways to honor those nearly 3,000 people lost, that’s a universal one.
Just a short burst this morning. Conquer the day, friends. And subscribe!
