5 things on my Mind: Diving into 'Heat 2', the Pujols thrill, and the vitality of water
Let's get into it before Friday gets here.
Water is taken for granted, especially our access to it. The bottled variety, filtered taps, and general ease of acquiring a healthy dose of H2O. Matt Damon was right. We take this shit for granted. Example: My week in St. Louis city.
Good water, when you can get it. Suddenly Monday morning, the faucets weren’t working. The water was just nonexistent, making that awful gargle that happens when you wake an old person up too soon. A water main broke, and the subsequent fixes didn’t hold. Thursday morning was greeted with the sound of a Michael Bay rock concert, a construction shovel banging into the concrete on my sidewalk. It’s just fucking great.
Finally this afternoon, the water returned. Slowly but surely, before it shuts off later tonight. Let me tell you how far this can take you back, going without water in the house. Need to take a shit? Sorry, nope. Go get some pool water, but get enough for two. All along, I had Damon’s character from “The Martian” in my head, telling me to recycle more and stop destroying the climate. I just want to take a long shower in my own house, Mr. Bourne.
That’s the first thing on my mind. Here’s a few more ruminations that need an outlet. Paywall inbound. The time has come to even up the paid content playing field. Hope all the freebies proved to you I’m worth the five bucks per month.
