One year ago, I posted an out-of-nowhere article that revealed seven truths about me that readers may not know. I hate mosquitoes and prefer a dark room to a light one. I started smoking cannabis at 36. Jean Claude Van Damme was the star of the movie that I saw the most times in a theater.
Cool shit like that. So, without further adieu, let’s uncork seven more truths about me. If you haven’t subscribed yet officially via email (it completes me), think about it after you’re done.
7. New York style pizza is my favorite. Imos isn’t as bad as outsiders make it out to be, but it’s nowhere near my kind of pie. Hit me up with Pie Guy Pizza from the Grove-a properly WIDE slice-and I am in love. No offense, St. Louis style. Just not my favorite. Dewey’s perfects a Brooklyn pizza, for the record.
6. My favorite actor of all time has to be Sylvester Stallone, who combines my two favorite film genres: action and drama. Few actors could merge those two, with box office and award clout to back it up. But more than anything, I admire Sly for the no quit grit that gave him his breakthrough in Hollywood. The audacity it took to refuse to walk away from Rocky is greater than people realize. He was nominated for the same role, separated by over forty years.
There’s personal connections as well. First Blood came out in 1982, the year I was born. That harrowing speech at the end about P.T.S.D. is Oscar-worthy in its own right. He could get to both places in a movie, movie star and acting wise.
5. On May 6, my wife and I will turn 21. As in, that date will mark 21 years since our first date. Ladies and gents, it was a done deal after one date. I knew. I think she did, too. It’s worked out quite well. I may not have been successful at a lot of things, but I hit the bullseye in the romance department.
4. I completed over 3,670 trips on Uber as a driver. Lot of very late nights and wild souls climbing into my car, but the money was undeniable.
3. I will eat Ramen noodles uncooked. Smash it and eat it like naked cereal, and break it off in chunks. No seasoning packet required. It’s like a healthy chip. Yes, this is weird.
2. My grandfather, Louis, may have worked on the assembly of the Gateway Arch. I’m at about 90/10 on that. He also served in the war, and could sing like Sinatra. According to my dad, he paced back and forth on his Bancroft porch after the Cardinals would cough up a game. I miss that man terribly.
1. The best Gerard Butler movie is Den of Thieves, and is followed by 300 and Law Abiding Citizen. Expect a full top ten Butler movies very soon. His new film, Kandahar, comes out next month.
That is all for now.
