There are certain actors who are simply good in anything. Put them in a movie or television show, and the whole thing just got better. Wendell Pierce is in that group.

Most people know him from “The Wire,” where he played Detective William “Bunk” Moreland. He was a confidant and sparring partner with Dominic West’s James McNulty, a “Tango and Cash” type cop partnership that made the beloved show better.

I get that chemistry on Amazon’s “Jack Ryan,” where Pierce embodies the somber heart of another badge. He’s James Greer, the CIA’s Deputy Director of Intelligence, also known as the ally and friend of John Krasinski’s title character. They roast, support, and generally zing and zang each other when not dealing with life-threatening circumstances.
