Great television shows aren’t easy to find. I mean the ones that stick with you, not just the cell phone-assisted watch.

For example, I am halfway through Season Two of HBO’s “White Lotus,” and my first real takeaway is, “what is the big deal with this show?!” Outside of personal taste, I don’t understand the pinpoint stingray appeal of Mike White’s hypnotic drug-induced island resort coma.
