Nothing hits harder than life. Whether it be the hard knocks of job life or something more severe, it seems like Dr. Doom has made his way onto the city streets.
Damar Hamlin knows that now more than he did last week. The Buffalo Bills safety is still recovering from a brutal on-field injury during Monday night’s game, but he has made considerable improvement after being unconscious for a few days.
A day after being awake and alert, Hamlin gained new ground today. The breathing tube was taken out today, and he’s now breathing on his own. When he could only answer via notepad, Hamlin asked one question, “who won the game?” The doctor’s answer was sweet and simple: “You did. You won the game of life.”
What can seem so fickle can also be fleeting; life’s virtue is being able to tackle the next day with a whole new level of intensity. The flip side of that equation is not knowing if tomorrow will ever come. Hamlin was in that abyss for three days as a result of a legal football hit that happened to strike him at the worst time. Today, he’s awake, answering questions, curious about the game that took place Monday, and on the road to recovery.
