Against every odds known to a sports fan’s brain, the St. Louis Blues have won 12 games in a row. They set a new franchise record on Saturday night against Colorado for consecutive wins in a row, outlasting the Avalanche 5-4 in another tightly contested hockey game. Right when you think the streak is ending, the Blues respond with a “no thanks” effort to that presumption.

In the immortal words of Darren Pang, they are playing with the gumption of a thousand ships right now. The opponent doesn’t seem to matter; their win-loss record is a byproduct of the “next team to beat” factor. Since the beginning of March, St. Louis is a ruthless 15-2-1. They haven’t lost a hockey game since March 13 against Pittsburgh, a defeat they avenged last week in thrilling fashion at The Enterprise Center.

Speaking of home triumphs, the Blues haven’t lost a home game since Feb. 22. They haven’t lost in regulation at Enterprise since Feb. 6. It’s a ridiculous statistic, something the team is full of at the moment. Since Jim Montgomery took over, the Blues are 34-16-6, good for 74 points. With no offense to Drew Bannister, things have been swell since Doug Armstrong swapped out one bald coach for another. Under “Monty,” they’re playing a tight 60 minutes of hockey every single game.
