The world went and got itself so addicted to bad news that any shred of good news comes off as overbearing. It’s like a funnel that inherits the news with a wide open hug, but the welcome shrinks as it sinks to the bottom and fully digests. People know how to handle tragedy these days. It’s honest good things that represent a curveball.
Example: Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift got engaged over the weekend.
The first thing that escapes your brain should resemble a form of “congratulations.” After all, two people decided to invest a portion of their lives in the idea that love was still worth chasing down. They could have went down Depp-Heard Lane, but chose a brighter street. Anything below that is a beginners guide to skepticism that needs to be avoided. It’s okay to be a cynic, but give yourself time to get there.
NFL fans hate this announcement, or at least the ones who can’t stand to hear her name again. These are the same humans who dedicate an entire night of their life to a draft that will be made available the following morning in full. The same lot of humans who dedicate a good part of their Fall season to a league that is tethered to its overall worth in fantasy football and gambling. Give the betting parties a few ways to make money off the appearance and mention of Swift, and the whining will subside.
It’s like feeding an alcoholic a road soda so the overall ride can be enjoyed by the other six people along for the trip. You need to tune out the hate by slowly hanging money over the NFL casual crowd who doesn’t believe in true love.
Now, did the two lovebirds choose wisely in regards to timing? Yes indeed. They announced their engagement right around the start of the regular season, and near her big announcement about the details of her upcoming album. It came a week or so after Swift’s too-cute-for-one-reel appearance on the Kelce brother podcast, so the public already had the two circling their collective brain.
They’re a cute couple with a few perfect elements to their romance. They’re both 35 years old with birthdays that are less than three months apart from each other. Kelce and Swift are both spotlight-able personalities who know the rigors of a public relationship. It’s been evident since their first television appearance that they don’t mind the attention, because if they start to hate it, we will only get depressed by it. As is, it’s a positive development to see a couple high-profile people taking a shot at the best nectar known to humans.
Neither represent a stepping stone to the other. Swift was already a superstar when she met Kelce, who was already a superstar in his own right following a couple Super Bowl victories. Like a pair of clouds that orbited closer than usual, they made a choice to see if happily-ever-after is as sweet as they say-especially one that didn’t have a shred of financial-influenced decision-making behind its construction.
Just watch the podcast. They’re disgustingly in love right now. It’s all over their faces, body language, and the way they are around each other. Why go against the tide?
Yes, we will hear a lot about them as the Kansas City Chiefs begin their season. You’ll live. We will hear about them a lot. There may be a different article down the line if I start to become annoyed by it. That’ll be hard since the current landscape of news is mostly negative. At worst, just stomach the mad romance. It’s only mad to the people who don’t believe in love.
I’m from the group that can have their ass kicked by the notion of love and romance, and still come back looking for more. The affliction doesn’t wear off easily. If you’re truly that way, very little can make you stop believing in it. So, I’ll eat this very public romance up like a delicious plate of mini cupcakes.
It helps that I’m not a big football fan these days. I used to take a seat from morning to night in order to watch a few football games every Sunday, but that ended before the Rams left town. I don’t know. Over time, there were better ideas on how to spend that time. The Chiefs, though, were already an attraction to a casual fan like myself. This news just makes it more enjoyable to tune into their games.
How many people exactly can Swift piss off?
Pissing them off with genuine romance is a great way for a superstar to be in 2025, where ordinary liberties are being stripped away and the simplest of means to live are becoming more expensive. As the world goes to shit, let’s soak up the little things.
Ps. I don’t know if it’s true love just yet, but my Natalie Zea crush has been reignited with my Justified rewatch. Stay tuned.
Good piece Dream.
Only the cynics will wish them ill!
I am happy for both of them and hope it sticks like mine and yours have!
Carlin Dead but wishing them both the best
