Mailbag request, paid subscriber chat tease, and escaping from Hidden Valley
There’s some new developments at the Buffet.
Certain deliveries look like a potential live grenade from afar. Trouble town. You look up the address on your iPhone map and just see a bunch of trees with tiny roads that look like something a kid drew on his last day of school. A Hidden Valley stop looked like such today, a large home with a driveway as long as a short airport runway.
In order to park safely, I’d need to either back in off the main drive that’s a short distance from the ski resort, or just pull in enough to get off the road. After a walk and some deep breaths, I curled my large vehicle out of the driveway onto the escape road and went on with my day. Sometimes, your mind makes things harder than they ever had a chance to be. Lessons learned at 43.
Greetings, Friday night travelers. Never stop hanging with your parents if you’re so lucky. My dad and I just finished off a drive that nearly rivaled my truck route today, one that lasted over 80% of the work day.
There’s some new developments here at the Buffet. Some creative movement. Taking note of other Substack writers and their methods to add subscribers and engage their community, I’m going to be launching a bi-weekly mailbag here where paid subscribers can drop questions for me to answer either through the written word or possibly a video podcast.
(This isn’t Hidden Valley, just Wentzville.)
Everything will be the same as any other post, just an additional yearning for a packed comments section. As I was pulling questions from social media for my last mailing, something occurred to me. Those friends, real or not, didn’t pay for this blog. They didn’t pitch in, even for a free subscription. That happens here, so drop your questions below.
Mailbags will be open to everyone. Free and paid subscribers can comment below on this post, a right usually reserved for paid readers. For those keeping score at home, this is what paid subscribers get:
-100% of posts, free loaders only get 75%. From a C to an A, just like that. I post daily, sometimes twice a day so it’s worth the $5.46 monthly fee.
-The ability to comment on posts and join the community. Again, this one will be open for mailbag requests. All other posts can only be commented on by donators. I respond to every single comment too, so no ghosting.
-Paid Subscriber chat! Yeah baby! Coming next week, I’ll schedule a chat for paid subscribers. Again, pulling a tactic from other writers on here-they’ve come from Forbes and ESPN to write for Substack-this is a paid subscriber only perk. I’ll get on here and open up the forum. You pile in and we turn that thing to Yahoo Messenger for 30 minutes or maybe an hour.
For three years, I’ve tried to figure out how to monetize this site and make some money. Keep it healthy and not give it all away for free. Nothing slinks past us more than time. I’ve been writing on the net for over 14 years. It’s okay to charge $5 per month. But there will be gifts. Something for the ones who pay the piper a few shekels.
Download the app, folks. I’m on there most of the day checking for notes from my readers.
Before I go back to finishing The Accountant, this is another reminder to drop your questions below for the next mailbag. A chance to ask me anything: sports, movies, tv shows, adulting, and everything in between.
So, click and ask away!
