Millie Bobby Brown's online body-shaming haters reveal a terrible side of humanity
The Stranger Things star shouldn't have to deal with this bullshit.
Jealousy can be an awful thing that splinters into a hate program that gathers fuel with each incoming soul adding vileness to the fire. Being a little jealous is fine and all. For example, I am jealous that Chris Hemsworth has seventeen ab muscles and three biceps. I am jealous of Christina Hendricks’ husband who gets to ravish her whenever he pleases, and the jealousy bank for Colin Jost, husband of Scarlett Johansson, is extensive. That’s a comfy kind of jealous, something the online haters of Millie Bobby Brown stand far apart from in their own sector of negativity.
The Stranger Things and Enola Holmes star has a new movie with Chris Pratt coming out called The Electric State, and the movie’s title could refer to her nerve endings over the past few weeks as commenters dump loads of unnecessary bullshit on her Instagram feed. Save me the “they’re a movie star and it comes with the business” jargon, because that’s flat out WEAK (channeling my dad’s X-ray technician buddy’s way of saying that word). Brown finding massive success at an early age-the Netflix hit series debuted when she was only 12 years old-shouldn’t require an open bank of garbage to suddenly begin floating her way.
With the fifth and final season of the science fiction coming-of-age extravaganza releasing this year, the online disturbance will only intensify due to the rabid jealousy that stalks every one of these comments. It’s not regular folks outside of show business coming after her looks and aging (she’s gorgeous by the way), but comedians as well. Matt Lucas compared Brown to an undereducated teen mom in a bit and went on to apologize for the rude comments.
Brown took to her IG account to ask for people to stop being asshats, putting out an incredibly wise line and way of summing it all up.
“I grew up with the rest of the world, and I just wish they’d grow up with me.”
In other words, act your damn age! Forgive me, but the Lucas bit wasn’t even funny and seemed to stretch the limits of crossing a line that doesn’t have to be crossed. There are plenty of targets around Hollywood that could use a chirp or two, but these comments need to stop. In an effort to curb the influx of hate in the world, these body shaming comments can fall off the face of the Earth.
Do people really think the 21-year-old British actress is aging poorly? I mean, REALLY?!? She wears a decent amount of makeup to premieres and live interviews, but that’s the norm and it doesn’t look as bad as many make it out to be. Perhaps, we could give her time to grow into the different phases of her life and appearance without adding comments. Humans love to comment on other’s appearances as if they are superstar models.
Did you take a look at Lucas? How would it feel to have someone post crap like that to over a million IG followers. The line brawl that ensues after a comment like that is made causes the whole situation to spiral out of control. As someone who has tasted a little online hate to the degree of 90+ blocked Twitter accounts, it’s overwhelming and quite useless in the end. What does all of it do or bring to light?
Jealousy. That’s what it brings to light. Anyone who is going after Brown doesn’t really think she’s aging poorly. They’re jealous little souls, wishing there was more money and success in their lives than hers. Too bad. Talent is talent, and she is running with it to the Hollywood bank. Off the screen, she carries herself well and doesn’t get into trouble or embarrass her employers, family, or friends.
She’s a good egg, so why the hate? Making light of it only places you on the bus of decrepit souls who get their satisfaction from tearing apart other’s looks and lives. Imagine a world without this crap and it’s a far better one. Life is hard enough without a bunch of underqualified body critics giving their take. Look in the mirror, people. Reconsider what you’re about to say before someone has to climb on your feed and pick apart the filters used in your pics.
As someone who couldn’t blurt out loud (yet believed completely) that she would grow up into a beautiful woman, it’s distressing and makes me question if I am looking at the same person. Has the early blitz of paparazzi and fame drained her age of innocence and robbed Brown of some coming-of-age virtues? Sure thing. Unlike some previous actors who burned out under the heavy flame, she’s still kicking and thriving.
Enola Holmes already has two movies and could spawn a third film. Stranger Things will most likely break Netflix’s server. The Pratt team-up movie will be a lovely early spring onset popcorn blast at the very least. She has other projects lined up. I could easily see Brown developing into a Keira Knightley-type who enjoys the indies and big budget films alike.
In other words, she’s not going anywhere, so stop the hate. All you have to do is climb on her IG feed and scroll a few times. It’s there and it’s awful. Be better and think about the idea of your mom hearing the words coming out of your mouth first.
Basically, be better. Does this really look like someone who is aging poorly?
Before you wonder what the masses think, form your own thought process. If more people did that, we wouldn’t be in such a deep hole as a country right now. Hate spreads. Love pushes back against it.
Thanks for reading and let the burly winds blow all of that negative nonsense away.
