MLB Lockout Ramble, Vol. 2: 50+ days in, hope is fleeting for a spring training start
The millionaires are still fighting, folks
It’s been over 50 days since Rob “Clown” Manfred and Major League Baseball executed a lockout. No free agents deals, facilities locked, and fans left wondering if baseball will get started on time this year.
No real progress has been made between the players and the owners, something that any knowledgeable fan could see from a mile away back in the fall. The league has put forth one deal, but that was nearly two weeks ago. That proposed deal was most likely batted away by the Players Association. As a counteroffer is put together, the idea of a clean start next month is becoming a figment of our imaginations.
The owners are at fault for being greedy assholes who keep collecting power, all the while feeding off the work and efforts of players—who would like more rights in a new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). More rights as in trimming down arbitration years. Every player’s clock gets started when they enter the league, and the team controls that player’s rights for six seasons. That’s an area the league needs to find middle ground on. Taking it down to four years should satisfy both parties.
