My issue with Arenado and Goldschmidt's vaccine decision has nothing to do with their actual choice
It's their phony reasoning, which should make all publicists scream.
Let’s climb right into pandora’s box, and avoid messing around here.
It’s impossible to discuss the decision of Nolan Arenado and Paul Goldschmidt deciding not to get vaccinated-therefore missing two games in Toronto starting tonight due to Canada’s COVID-19 restrictions-without igniting a war with other human beings.
That’s due to the political trigger finger of many, and how they and so many others immediately attach a health decision to an argument about policies, who is in office, who isn’t, and every other kind of bullshit that clogs truth and facts from coming through.
Here’s truth: The United States of America isn’t a dictatorship. It’s a constitutional republic, so people have a choice to receive or not receive a life-saving vaccine. They can refuse a shot that even their doctor would say was a wise decision. This choice game, and the political bullet train that unfortunately accompanies it, gets the temperature rising on social media and causes arguments and bitter fights that are completely unnecessary.
What are we arguing about? Someone’s decision-making process. You’re a lose/lose competitor in this field. If you scream at them to get the vaccine, you’re taking away their choice. If you lay off them, you’re a MAGA supporter and don’t think it’s that bad. These aren’t the only two ways to feel about this matter, but Twitter creates that aesthetic organically these days. You’re with us or against us, not simply trying to understand what the fuck is going on and why we should care.
I would urge Arenado and Goldschmidt, two seemingly smart fellas, to get the shot and help not only their friends and families, but MANY friends and families across the country and world. By publicly coming out and saying they refuse to get the vaccine-they are swaying the minds of millions across the world without even knowing it. Like it or not, athletes and celebrities influence little old you and me at the moment, in some big or small way.
And this is where my big problem with this news comes into play. (Also, where I will make this paid subscriber only, but there’s a free 7 day trial, just saying.)
