The Adam Wainwright/Yadier Molina farewell tour has officially been altered
Their swan song will look different now.
It was supposed to be beautiful.
Spring time in St. Louis, a full two years after the pandemic kicked off, is when the best of this city is shown off. Busch Stadium would be packed, and the Clydesdales would be ready. The right field gate would open up, and the sea of red would literally shake the foundations of the stadium as franchise legends circled in convertibles, greeting the younger players and waving to their adoring fans.
Opening Day everywhere in the country is special for this fanbase, a time and place where baseball reminds us that all the bad in the world still can’t defeat the good that comes with the fresh start of a baseball season. St. Louis does it better than any other team. 40,000+ bodies huddled together in the cathedral sports bowl of central downtown. It was supposed to be a thing of beauty, and now it’s on permanent hold while the owners and players deliberate over a new Collective Bargaining Agreement.
