Memphis Redbirds second baseman Nolan Gorman is 21 years old and assaulting pitchers down in the Pacific Coast League. The Cardinals have a shortstop problem at the big league level and a weak-hitting DH slot versus right-handed pitching. St. Louis does have a shortstop-capable hand in Tommy Edman, but worries about losing defense on their infield—which would in turn affect the starting pitching.
