Why Bill Burr is my favorite comedian working today
He picks zero sides, roasts everyone, and doesn't seem like he's trying that hard up there on stage.
When a new comedy special is released, the urge to rush over and see who is creating laughs can be tempered. These days, there are numerous working comedians out there cracking jokes and creating content, which can leave you feeling overwhelmed trying to keep up. Like movie releases, the streaming option has opened a door for up-and-coming talents to show their work on various platforms. Those rules of hesitation don’t apply to a seasoned pro like Bill Burr.
With no offense to Dave Chappelle or any other top shelf comic, Burr is the best working comedian at the moment. If he has a new special coming out, people will be trampled in route to pressing play. He’s the closest we have to a living George Carlin, who never held back when going after a political party or group of people who needed to be roasted. He doesn’t have to draw attention to it or try to make quick sense of an edgy joke up there; Burr will let it marinate while he cackles next to the microphone. The best comedian can’t give a single shit about feelings. That’s not their job.
