His whole life has been only about him; why would his broadcasting be any different?

I would rather listen to anyone besides Edmonds.

I had no idea Edmonds was getting hate. I agree with all of the negatives you pointed out and yet, I still think he’s the best analyst they have. Amid the long-winded meandering and I-just-got-a-text-froms, he does provide some useful insights about things like pitch sequencing and hitting mechanics. When it comes to actual analysis, he’s as good as anyone in any booth.

While Edmonds does annoy me at times, I simply cannot stand Brad Thompson. He’s clearly more polished and comfortable on-mic but he adds zero insight. Literally zero. His “analysis,” consisting of fake smiling, fake humility, and a fake TV voice, wore thin for me a long time ago. Around halfway through last season I started muting the broadcast when Thompson was on. I’ve tried, at times, to listen to him this season but I typically bail after a couple innings.

For all his faults, at least Edmonds seems authentic and has some potential. I’d much rather someone sit down with Edmonds to review the game tape and provide helpful feedback. I get the impression that no one has ever done that. I can still remember when Danny Mac started; he was horrendous. Now he’s one of the best. People can improve.

It’s a shame that my continued sanity requires muting half the broadcasts. Either “fix” Edmonds or just let McLaughlin go it alone (Vin Scully style). Just no more Brad Thompson, please.

Also recall the flopping catches he would make going to the ground in a dive and lying there for 30 seconds like he was dead; an inspiration for soccer falls.
