Dream!! A Great thorough analysis of the situation at 700 Clark Street. If DeWitt Jr. is smart he'll pay Mo to go away and start the rebuild a year sooner. Also DeWitt can't let a Goldy reunion be in the works. No nostalgia heartstrings please. If Goldy finds the fountain of youth and a second gear so be it with another team. The Cards shot their wad by not putting together a competitive roster around him and Nolan by grabbing low hanging fruit. Start building around Winn and the other kids i.e. Walker Saggese Wetherholt. But no more smoke and mirrors!!!
The only way to change this mediocre culture is for the fans to stay away and stop watching.
It has been a painful loyalty test for the faithful the past ten years.
Everyone is sick and tired of the patronizing bullshit that spews from Mozeliak’s mouth. We deserve a General Manager and a Manager with baseball experience and a love for winning!
Fire Marmol, Giersch and Mozeliak now and start over please.
Carlin Dead but sick of these sad sack non-performing Cardinals and Management
I agree with everything both of you wrote (including that the Dream’s column was masterful).
I’m not an Oli fan, but given the performances of the core players, if anything this team has overperformed. They have a -67 run difference —worst in the division. This is a last place team somehow managing to achieve a near .500 record. I’ll grudgingly give Oli some credit for that.
Given their improbably decent record, I expect an offseason of front office hand waving about how they’re only a piece or two away. But they’re wrong; any objective person with functioning eyeballs knows it. They need to blow it up, starting with Mozeliak. I’m not going to claim that someone I’d never heard of two months ago (Chaim) is the right answer but Mozeliak surely is the wrong one. Then let the new GM (whomever it is) decide on the specifics of the rebuild, including Oli’s fate.
Good stuff, mang. I agree that it’s not all Oli’s fault and he does have some chops as a manager. In order to keep him, you need a boss that will, like you said, let him do things his way. I do feel after a second losing season and non playoffs year he’s screwed, but could see a scenario where he is here next season. At this point, I don’t think he moves the needle much, but a better constructed club could definitely help.
PJ:
Good point on Marmol!
My guess is business as usual next year.
Carlin Dead but killing time until the end of season

Well said, Mark! They didn’t finish the painting after the acquisition of two all stars.
Wonderful column Dream; you nailed it.
