Buffa's Buffet Podcast: The Cardinals should trade Ryan Helsley as soon as possible

He's 31 in July, losing stock by the day, and playing on a non-contender.

In a short burst of early evening rumination from the Princeton Heights hub of bald man ranting, here’s a short video on why the Cardinals need to trade their closer, Ryan Helsley.

The longer they sit on their hands, the more stock their pitcher loses for contending teams to offer something valuable in return. John Mozeliak should have pulled the trigger over the offseason, but he’s driving a used car at this point as Chaim Bloom takes over in 2026. The team isn’t a contender and continue to operate on less-than-mediocre terms, so pull the trigger.

If Mozeliak knows anything and wants to help his team build for the future, he’ll get something juicy from the Phillies or Diamondbacks. They are willing to take on the $8 million price tag for Helsley’s services, so make it happen. Back in early November, I was a guy who thought keeping him would be wise. I am fully off that train, and have been for weeks.
