The Buffa's Buffet Podcast, episode 2: Galleria 6 Cinemas screens Spike Lee's 'Do The Right Thing'

Theater manager and film addict Landon Burris joined the pod to discuss this month's film, and preview March's movie.

There’s something about the classics. Movies you can trust with your time, not risking the possibility of a film wasting your time. In the vein of mortgaging time wisely, Galleria 6 Cinemas started a new film series, Great Films St. Louis, last year with the help of local film aficionado Mark Zimmermann. A way to honor the past, and savor the good old days where sequels didn’t roam the Earth.

Goodfellas, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, The Searchers, Jaws, The Sting, Nightmare on Elm Street, and others filled 2023’s monthly calendar. John Carpenter’s The Thing kicked off this year, and a Spike Lee classic will play this weekend at G6 Cinemas.

Do The Right Thing, released in 1989 and sorely passed over for many major Academy Award nominations, blazed a trail about the fire and havoc that can come out of racial tension. One hot summer day in Brooklyn, all hell breaks loose and a great film came out of it. The cast is wicked stellar, from Ossie Davis to Ruby Dee to Danny Aiello and John Turturro. Lee himself plays a big role in the film. It hasn’t tired with decades either.

A fitting way to honor Black History month on film, and hopefully draw a crowd for an oldie. Tune into the podcast I recorded with my good friend, theater manager Landon Burris, as we discuss Lee’s film and also reveal what our March movie is.

Showtimes at G6 Cinemas starts tomorrow night:

February 8: 7pm

February 9: 7pm

February 10: 10:30am

February 11: 1pm

Link to buy tickets.

Let’s just say a recent passing should make film fans especially thirsty for that one. Enjoy the chat, subscribe to the pod, and seek out films that you love. But most importantly, do the right thing this weekend.
